Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough again expressed his frustration with the Republican Party. In particular, the “extreme right,” which Scarborough said threatens the party’s standing in presidential races. If we keep on this path, he said, the GOP will cease “to be a player in presidential politics.”

The segment was pegged of former Secretary of State Colin Powell‘s appearance on Meet the Press yesterday — wherein Powell spoke about the “dark vein on intolerance” in the GOP, adding that the party still “looks down on minorities.”

Scarborough pointed to the “extreme” stances that came with President Barack Obama’s election in 2008. Namely, birtherism, secessionism, deeming Obama a “racist who hated all white people.” He went on to hit those who are engaging survivalist fears that their guns are going to be taken away; the “call to arms.” This approach is a “recipe for disaster,” Scarborough argued.

“If this party continues on this trajectory over the next three years, then we’re going to get wiped out in ’16,” he added. “And if we continue on this trajectory and — I think the Republican Party ceases to be a player in presidential politics.”
